Looking back at photos of Owen I now notice a puffiness to his face, starting about a month and a half ago, But it wasn't until a week ago that the puffy eyes were impossible to miss. Within 3 days his entire body was swollen. We scheduled a regular appointment with Dr. Campbell on Monday morning. After 3+ hours in her office, blood draws and waiting around for results, we were told Owen needed to be admitted to Doernbecher to determine what was going on with the poor little guy. All his tests that morning were coming back inconclusive. After 3 days in the hospital, a top & bottom GI scope under general anesthesia, other "samples" forcefully taken, and more blood draws that you could imagine all day and night, it is suspected to be a severe milk & soy allergy that we're facing.

For now Owen is on a dairy & soy free diet, and we're following up with an allergist, nutritionist, the Pediatric GI Specialist & Owen's pediatrician, Dr. Campbell to get him back to normal. This dairy/soy free diet is a challenge, for sure, but we're so happy that it's the only thing we have to worry about now.
As soon as we came home from the hospital Owen began talking up a storm & walking all over the place! He wants to go out for "walk" all the time, and asks for "co-co's" *crackers/food* all day long now!

Poor baby! And poor Mommy and Daddy! How scary! :(
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy they figured it all out though! He's such a cutie and seems so full of personality and spunk! :)
I'm sure the new diet will be difficult at first, but at least you know now what's going on!
