Memorial Day Weekend

We stayed in town for Memorial Day Weekend. While I like the idea of heading out of town like everyone else, I also realize that it's a ton of work to get a car packed up and unloaded for a couple days of camping. Plus, camping with a 6 month old does not sound like a fun way to spend a weekend! Maybe we'll brave it later this summer. Maybe...

Sydney was in charge of taking care of the Olsen's dogs, Roxy & Ricco, for 4 days. She was not so happy about the responsibility the first morning, but quickly realized that she wasn't going to be getting a dog of her own anytime soon if she couldn't manage walking across the street to take care of them. After the initial morning, and a talk with Tim, she was more than willing to go over to take care of them! She then wanted to go over every 2 hours! I love it when a sense of responsibility kicks in with that little girl! 

Both Saturday & Monday we worked around the house, A LOT! I'm still amazed at how much work a brand new home requires! There are never ending projects. Tim is a master picture/frame hanger. He spent a good portion of the time hanging pictures, frames & mirrors around the house.  It looks great! I'll have to post pictures soon. He also worked really hard in the backyard getting all our vegetables & shade plants planted.  The backyard is really coming together!

Tim worked on Sunday so we joined the Miller & Ivester families at the station for dinner. I really enjoy the families that Tim works with! It's neat to see the kids grow up together; They all just LOVE playing together. 

Now it's Tuesday and we're back to work and school. I'm in charge of Sydney's Girl Scout troop meeting Try-It this afternoon. Hope the girls like scrapbooking, because that's all this mommy knows to share with them. I'm thinking a page for a summer scrapbook. Hope they enjoy it!

Owen - 6 Months Old

Biggins is 6 months old now! Half way to 1? How did that happen? 

Owen is now 2' 4.75" tall (97% percentile), weighs 17lbs. 13.5oz (51% percentile), and his sweet little noggin is in the 46% percentile at 17.24".

He went in yesterday for his 6 month shots and wasn't a happy camper. Thankfully he was over the pain quickly. I was very happy to learn that since he's all up to date he doesn't have to have shots again until his 12 month check up. Dr. Campbell said he's doing really well and progressing just as he should. She did encourage us to really work on getting him to eat solid foods. He has moved from the 75% percentile in weight to the 51% percentile. I find this hard to believe because he's not skinny by any means! It is what it is, and we'll start pushing the solid food more. I've tried to get him to eat carrots, yams, applesauce & baby oatmeal with no luck. He pushes it right back out of his mouth. Hmm. I figure he'll do it when he's ready, but we'll continue to encourage it everyday.

Sydney's Poetry Reading

Apparently April is National Poetry Month. You didn't know? Neither did I!

Sydney & her classmates have been working hard throughout the month on their poerty notebooks, full of all different types of poems they have written. They were all so excited, if not a little nervous, to present their poems in the school library to parents and classmates.  We, parents, were even assigned the task of writing a poem for our kids to surprise them with at the reading. Tim and I aren't exactly poets, but thankfully we were given an easy style and simple instructions!

Mother's Day

My family sure loves and appreciates me as a mommy; that makes me feel great!

I was celebrated on Saturday with a trip to Barefoot Sage with my mom & sister for a relaxing morning. (Of course celebrating them as moms, too!) We each enjoyed the Restorative Foot Bath & Massage. It was heavenly! After our treatments we had lunch at Grand Central Cafe where I had my favorite Turkey & Chutney Sandwich - Yum!

 I arrived home to find Tim making a surprise, amazing smelling, dessert. I couldn't wait to find out what it was - Peanut Butter Caramel Shortbread bars that were to die for! I am not embarrassed to admit that I ate at least a third of them over the weekend! For dinner my sweet husband also made pizza from scratch with all my favorite toppings. Add all this on to Owen letting me sleep through the night for the first time in months and Sydney being on her best behavior and I'd say my Mother's Day was pretty good!
